McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been such conversations," the English capital native former Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special job here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Everything external hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Agreement Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this role like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker played for the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales striker is minded to finish the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they fail to finish as Group J runners-up.

Considering his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
