The Renowned Musician Calls On Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down following a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of musicians featured on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The track showcases a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a figure commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”
The song is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
