The President Invites Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had bravery,” the governor addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
