One of the original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the company with his partner, revealed how he will independently develop the controversial product within an individual series showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Creators and Parent Company

The recent development escalates the continuing disagreement among the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods corporation that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted that the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for support for Palestinians because of its coloration, which match the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

The new dessert series will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which was first created in 2016 for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Plans

The founder revealed how he plans to create additional frozen dessert varieties that address issues that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning concerns that its independence had been compromised after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
