The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
