Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
