Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Problems.
'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.
The English seamer increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.
The pace bowler pulled up with his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.
The touring camp reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".
The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.
His form was underwhelming early in the series, taking just three wickets.
He was dropped for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.
Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.
Yet, at the end of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.
Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match following his omission of the third.
