Outrage Explodes as Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Fierce Backlash

Individuals from both sides of the partisan aisle and the entertainment world are uniting to condemn former President Donald Trump for his comments following the tragic passing of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Los Angeles home, Trump posted on his platform to label the late director as "anguished and struggling". In a message, he asserted Reiner's demise was "because of the anger he caused others through his massive, relentless, and incurable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Arrest

Police have since announced the arrest of the couple's adult son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a significant amount.

A Torrent of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was swift and harsh.

“What a disgusting and despicable comment,” remarked actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly condemned the remarks. Goldberg referenced previous rhetoric from Trump regarding the killing of an activist, demanding, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any worse?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a despicable piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just lost it. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from Within Political Ranks

A number of GOP elected officials also voiced dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the event was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". Greene also mentioned challenges with substance abuse and mental health some families face.

Another GOP congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disgraceful" given the circumstances. He publicly challenged members in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously shown "complete revulsion" and condemned violence for political ends unequivocally after the shooting of a different individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who shot the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the story of the session, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
