Information Available Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Terror Attack

At least 16 people perished and more than 40 were wounded when attackers fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack local police have called a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, authorities have confirmed the number of fatalities is 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 injured people were admitted to hospital.

The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but police believe their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the victims who have been named so far.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Known as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member said.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.

She told the events before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Publicly, a senior official said that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the message continued.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was also killed in the incident, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number remain under care, with a number in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
