Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
